THE HEADLINES IN THIS REPORT:
- ORBIT NETWORK
- HOT BIRD 2
- ARIANE V93
- ARABSAT 2B
- Bits & Pieces
ORBIT NETWORK
-------------
The ORBIT Satellite Television & Radio Network announced in a press
release the plans to regionalize the present ORBIT digital packages
transmitted from Intelsat 703, 57 East and Intelsat 705, 18 West. The
French Canal+ channels, as well as JSC Jordan, are to be transmitted
only from Intelsat 705, the announced STAR TV channels will be
transmitted exclusively over the Intelsat 703 for the Gulf and Middle
Eastern countries.
HOT BIRD 2
----------
A third attempt to launch a Lockheed Martin Atlas 2A rocket carrying
Eutelsat's $200 million Hot Bird 2 communications satellite was called
off yesterday because of stormy weather over the Cape Canaveral Air
Station. Based on a dismal weekend forecast, launch was tentatively
rescheduled for November 22. If the shuttle Columbia takes off on time
November 19, the Atlas launch will move up one day to November 21. While
the forecast would appear to preclude any chance of launching Hot Bird 2
this weekend, Lockheed Martin officials said in a statement "should the
weather significantly improve during the weekend, the launch team will
consider an attempt for Sunday, November 17."

ARIANESPACE
-----------
Just after I yesterday made an announcement on Arianes next start,
Panamsat delayed the launch from PAS 6 to March/April 1997. Manufacturer
Space/Loral needs time to replace the Power Control Units against
modified parts with improved long term performance. Identical units will
be used in the production of PAS 7 (Ariane launch end '97) and PAS 8
(Proton launch early '98)
A replacement satellite for flight V93 will be available, but is not yet
announced.
ARABSAT 2B
----------
The recent launched Arabsat 2B will be slotted in the 30.5 East
position, taking over duties from the present Arabsat 1C. The satellite
will be operational early January 1997. The satellite is an exact copy
of the Arabsat 2A, which is performing his duties with great succes for
21 Arab Nations on 26 East.
The Arabsat 2B carries 12 txpr in the Ku-Band, 8 of 36 MHz bandwidth, 4
of 30 MHz bandwith (Nr.9-10-11-12) and uses downlink frequencies between
12.500 and 12.750 GHz with linear (Horizontal/Vertical) polarization.
The Ku amplifiers have a power of 93 to 96 Watt TWTA and are feeding a
dual-grinded, shaped reflector of 160 cm diameter.
Also on board 12 C-Band txpr of 36 MHz bandwidth and 2 C-Band txpr of 54
MHz bandwidth on a Medium Power amplifier of 15 Watt SSPA. Furtheron 8
C-Band txpr of 36 MHz bandwidth, on a linearized 57.6 TWTA High Power
amplifier.
The downlink antenna for the C-Band is an eliptical, shaped reflector of
210 by 220 cm, using Dual Orthagonal polarization (Right circular/Left
circular).
The downlink frequencies for the Medium Power txpr are between 3.700 and
4.020 GHz, for the High Power txpr between 4.040 and 4.200 GHz.
The EIRP of the Ku-Band beam is from 43 dBW for the extended KB
coverage, to 47 dBW for the, much smaller, KA coverage.
COVERAGE MAPS Ku-Band: http://www.arab.net/arabsat/kuband_coverage.html
The EIRP of the C-Band beam is 35 dBW for the Medium Power txpr and 41
dBW for the High Power txpr. The High Power txpr are reaching the
western coast of India with a guaranteed 31 dBW EIRP.
