The former Showtime Promo transponder 14, 4.115 GHz, V, showed renewed
activity today. Un undefined signal with sounds of passing data-streams
could be observed.

Transponder 12, 10.971 GHZ, H, was activated presenting a colorbar test
card and a sound carrier on 6.65 MHz, presently relaying a Turkish Radio
station.
Kanal 6 transmissions on transponder 14, 11.075 GHz, H, have been very
weak throughout the day, a signal loss of at least 3dbW could be
observed.

On 12.646 GHz, H, is now since three days a half-powered transponder 7
active, without any sound carriers. This transponder has been previously
used by KSC Kuwait TV.

As Stefan Hagedorn reports in his recent transponder news, will TV
Algeria be receivable in the Middle East, for the first time from an
Eutelsat satellite.
TV Algeria replaces in the night from Sunday 19 January to Monday 20
January ART Europe on transponder 26B, 11.095 GHz, H, widebeam.
The following audio subcarriers will be available:
7.02 MHz Radio One (Arabic)
7.20 Mhz Radio Two (Arabic)
7.38 MHz La Chaine 3 (French)
7.56 MHz Radio Algerienne Culture (French)
The presently by TV Algeria used superbeam transponder 34B, 11.678 GHz,
H, is leased to Direc PC, which already uses the other tranponder half
34A, 11.638 GHz, H.
ART Europe is from then only available in the Middle East via
transponder 65, 12.015 GHz, H, on Hot Bird 2, 13 East.

France Telecom transponder 22, 11.163 GHz, H, showed a live transmission
for SUNERGY 24, from Bombay, with relays to the Leela Kempinski Hotel,
Mumbai.
First links could be seen as of 06:30 CET, official programmstart was at
7:30 CET. Sound carriers were available on 6.60 and 7.20 MHz.
Identical transmissions, in a much lesser quality, could be seen on
Intelsat 604, 60 East, 4.188 GHz, Rc.
The same FT transponder 22, 11.163 GHz, H, is since a few days also used
for the transmissions of the Voice of America for Serbia for half an
hour daily, starting shortly after midnight CAT (Central African Time).

The long vacated transponder 101L, 3.747 GHz, Lc, showing a couple of
monthes a colorbar test card, came to new life today.
A greyish dia with colourfull text was inserted announcing "Watch this
space for an exiting new development". A new soundcarrier on 6.60 MHz
has a promotion for M-Net and new M-Net "Radio Cameo - the best of radio
& television" and "Cameo Radio - unwind your mind", whatever that may
mean.
The accompanied taped music is pop, not very recent, but up-beat,
repeated every 40 minutes.
Present transmissions are analogue, not coded and in PAL. The reception
quality is excellent in Cairo.
The sound carrier with the South African Radio station on 7.20 MHz has
ceased.
Comment: M-Net has always had a lease on this transponder. It was
previously showing K-TV and SuperSport, on a shared bases.

ABC is now regularely feeding their news broadcasts via 12.701 GHz, H,
during night time. ESPN feeds for NHK from NHK New York are transmitted
late night untill 10:00 CAT.
ORBIT gears up for 2nd Festival of Arabic Song

The Orbit Satellite Television and Radio Network today confirmed the
dates for the Orbit Second Festival of Arabic Song, which will be held
February 8-11 at the Forum in Beirut. The four night festival, which
coincides with Eid Al Fitr (the end of Ramadan), will feature some of
the top performers from the Arab world.
The Orbit Second Festival of Arabic Song will be presented this year by
a number of top stars, including Lebanese actress Rula Hamadi, star of
the famous Arabic series Al Assifa Tahubbu Marratayn featured on Al
Thania.
Returning to this year s edition of the festival will be Kuwaiti actor
Mohammed Al Mansour, whose presence received a thunderous ovation at
last year's festivities, as well as Egyptian star Farouk Al Fishawi.
Other top stars joining the event will be Luma Lawand, Raghda, Liliane
Na'aseh Aleeco Da'oud and Saud Al Dosary.
Each night of the Gala will feature four different singers, bringing the
audience four nights of a thousand stars once again. Among this
year's performers are Warda, Nawal Al Zoghbi, Hicham Abbas, Georges
Wassouf, Mayada Al Hinnawi, Ragheb Alameh, Hani Shaker, Salah Al Lami,
Abdel Majid Abdullah, Diana Haddad, Mohammad Al Bloushi, Assi Hillani,
Najwa Karam and Medhat Saleh. The festival will also feature today's
promising new stars, including Egypt's Ghada Rajab, Lebanon s Georg Al
Rasy, Abdo Shareef of Morocco and Rashed Al Farsi of Saudi Arabia.
The Orbit Second Festival of Arabic Song is an exclusive tribute by the
Orbit Network to the world of Arabic music. The event will be held at
the recently constructed Forum of Beirut, one of the largest venues in
the Middle East, with a seating capacity of 5,000.

The news-archive pages have been updated including news up to 15
January. The background design had to be changed for compatibility
reasons. Tomorrow there will be another change to this archive: the
outline in table format will be removed and a simpler design used, in
order to speed up transmisions and minimize file lenght.
It will be not as fancy as before, but quite a few visitors of the pages
complained about loading time. I certainly hope it still satisfies the
needs. The "Future Satellites" page has also been updated.
