THE HEADLINES IN THIS 97.03.11 REPORT:

- Hi-North on E2f3
- AFN on E2f2
- Israel Ch. 2
- Bits & Pieces

INTELSAT 602, 63 East, http://www.satcodx.com/i602.html
------------
The RTI test card on frequency 10.975 GHz, H, ceased today.

TURKSAT 1C, 42 East, http://www.satcodx.com/t1c.html
----------
Kanal D on the Turkeybeam, transponder 13, 11.026 Ghz, H and on the
Eurobeam, transponder 2A, 11.569 GHz, V, has to refrain from
broadcasting for 24 hours on March 11, 1997.

EUTELSAT II-f3, 16 East, http://www.satcodx.com/e2f3.html
--------------
Finlands YLE TV has leased, after years of resemblement, a widebeam
transponder on the Eutelsat II-f3. They will start soon test
transmissions from transponder 38, 11.617 GHz, V.
This transponder has previously been used by Canal+ Polska, which itself
was recently transferred to Hot Bird 1, transponder 15, 11.516 GHz, H.

HOT BIRD 1, 13 East, http://www.satcodx.com/hb1.html
----------
The Discovery Channel is testing in MPEG-2 on transponder 3, 11.247,75
GHz, H, slightly below the analogue EBN transmissions. SR and FEC are
not known, but will be soon determined through professionals with the
correct receiving equipment. (MB ?)

This transponder is transmitting, as all Hot Bird 1 transponder, in a
Super-Widebeam modus, powerfull receivable throughout the Mediterranean
Middle Eastern countries. It will be difficult however, to pick up the
signal in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States, where the newer Hot Birds
have (and will have) a spot beam.

EUTELSAT II-f2, 10 East, http://www.satcodx.com/e2f2.html
--------------
On transponder 39, 11.659 GHz, V, is AFN (AFRTS) transmitting in
525/B-MAC, identical to transmissions, on this satellite, on transponder
27B, 11.178 GHz, V. The last mentioned signal will cease to the end of
March.

AFN will most probably use the additional bandwidth of transponder 39 to
progress with the digital transmission of the signals.

New leases for the transponder halves 27A, 11.138 GHz, V, and 27B,
11.178 GHz, V, have not been made public yet.

Transponder 33, 11.596 GHz, H, has been reserved for Slovenian TV
broadcasts; but not to be expected soon, as EPT-ET 1 plans to transfer
its present transmissions, on this transponder, to Hot Bird 3, after a
succesful Arianespace launch in July 1997.

INTELSAT 707, 1 West, http://www.satcodx.com/i707.html
------------
On transponder 111X-B, 11.015 GHz, V, started this morning a copy of
Israeli commercial Channel 2, including all Radio Stations.
Transmissions are identical as seen on transponder 73B, 11.176 GHz, V.
TV sound can be found on subcarriers at 6.60 and 7.02 MHz. Radio signals
are available from subcarriers 7.20, 7.38 and 7.56 MHz.

SME comment: It has to be assumed that transmissions on transponder 73B,
11.176 GHz, V, will cease soon, as will the testcard on transponder 73A,
11.136 Ghz, V, in order to release this transponder for other duties in
the high North.
