THE HEADLINES IN THIS 97.03.16 REPORT:

- Express 6
- EuroNews
- RTS SAT Moves
- Bits & Pieces

EXPRESS 6, 80 East, http://www.satcodx.com/e6.html
---------
Russian channel T3 on 4.125 Ghz Rc and NTV on 11.525 GHz, Rc disappeared
today from this satellite.
Transmissions of TV6 on 3.875 GHz, RC and AST on 4.025 GHz, Rc, remained
unchanged.

PANAMSAT 4, 68.5 East, http://www.satcodx.com/pas4.html
----------
The transmissions of Future TV in the DStv 1stNet package on channel 10
are named "Future Gold", and do not broadcast 24 hrs a day.
The on-screen logo is in shape identical to the one used on Arabsat 2A,
but golden in color.

ARABSAT 2B, 30.5 East, http://www.satcodx.com/a2b.html
----------
Just two feeds on already known transponder: on transponder 13, 3.995
GHz, Rc, a sport feed and transponder 15, 4.044 GHz, RC, a discussion
was transmitted. All sounds were carried on 6.60 MHz. Quality was good
in Cairo.

EUTELSAT II-f1, 13 East, http://www.satcodx.com/e2f1.html
--------------
EuroNews starts from tomorrow a new programming schedule, with news
bulletins every 15 minutes from 06:00 to 09:00 CET and 18:00 to 23:00
CET. From April 15 the channel will finally take up the long announced
broadcasts in Arabic on a separate subcarrier (7.74 MHz to be expected)

HOT BIRD 1, 13 East, http://www.satcodx.com/hb1.html
----------
An Italian analog channel will start on 11.283 GHz, V, in a few days!
Info kindly supplied by SATCO-DX from the source "SadBugger".

SME comment: After the ceasure of the Telepiu MPEG-2 transmissions on
this Hot Bird transponder 4, on 19 March, I expect one of the Mediaset
channels, previously analogue on Intelsat 602, at 63 East, to appear.
Everybody can make his/her own choice: Rete 4, Italia Uno, or Canale 5.

The above channels are already available from Hot Bird 2 in MPEG-2 on
transponder 60, 11.919 GHz, V.

Eutelsat II-f2, 10 East, http://www.satcodx.com/e2f2.html
--------------
As earlier in SME reported, AFN-TV Europe (AFRTS) started in
MPEG-2/PowerVu on 11.178 GHz, V, with SR 17179, FEC 3/4. All four
included channels are coded.

SME comment: I expect the AFRTS B-MAC transmissions on transponder 39,
11.659 GHz, to be of a temporary nature. After all SMATV set-ups have
been changed to the new digital reception equipment I expext the B-MAC
transmissions to cease completely.

Minutes after writing these thoughts arrived the latest info:
The above mentioned B-MAC Transmissions WILL cease around March 25th and
RTS SAT Serbia will appear here, in a move from Eutelsat II-f4-M,
freeing up transponder 22B, 11.178 GHz, H.
Thanks to "SadBugger" for this precious piece of information.

SME Comment: A move of RTS was expected after the announced relocation
of RIK Nikosia, also to Eutelsat II flight 2, also scheduled for the end
of March, early April.

Turkish news broadcaster NTV had severe uplink difficulties on
transponder 20A, 10.987 GHz, H, in the early evening today. At times
only a blank carrier with undistorted sound was receivable. Later
various sync difficulties appeared. Various messages were displayed,
however in the Turkish language, which is "Spanish" to me!

INTELSAT 707, 1 West, http://www.satcodx.com/i707.html
------------
The carrier on transponder 111X-A, 10.967 GHz, V, ceased after
submitting a feed this evening, for IBA-1, with a subcarrier on 6.60.
The test card, and carrier on transponder 73A, 11.136 GHz, V, could also
not be observed tonight.

AMOS 1, 4 West, http://www.satcodx.com/amos1.html
------
The Amos testcard moved from transponder 2L, 11.052 GHz, V, to
transponder 3L, 11.140 GHz, V. This is a new frequency, however an
additional not recognizable signal is also available just below the test
card signal (data ?).
The transponder middle frequency is 11.152 GHz, V, and the transponder
has previously been used divided in two equal sized paths.

INTELSAT 705, 18 West, http://www.satcodx.com/i705.html
------------
Italia 9 has moved from Intelsat 602 to Intelsat 705 on 11.680 GHz, V,
PAL. They are only broadcasting on Fridays 20:00 to 24:00 CET.
Info kindly supplied by Christian Lyngemark: SATCO-DX.

PANAMSAT 3-R, 43 West, http://www.satcodx.com/pas3r.html
------------
Beside the standard "Panamsat" colorbar testcard on 12.699 GHZ, V, was a
sports feed seen tonight on 12.701 GHz, H. The accompanying subcarrier
on 6.60 MHz had Portuguese comments, the 7.20 MHz carrier was empty.

Best regards,

Henk C. Room / Sat-MidEast / Cairo - Egypt
