THE HEADLINES IN THIS 97.05.14 REPORT:

- SHOWTIME on PAS-4
- MCM in MPEG on 66 East
- Intelsat 801 Tests ?
- Bits & Pieces

PANAMSAT 4, 68.5 East, http://www.satcodx.com/pas4.html
----------
SHOWTIME channel 22 transmitted on May 12th from around 23:00 CEST the
European version of MTV, while on channel 21 the digital mosaics
re-appeared and the temporary TV audio of "Style" on this channel had
ceased.
Early morning the MTV channel tests were discontinued.

SME COMMENT: Is there a new channel to be viewed soon, or was it just a
simple uplink error ?

INTELSAT 704, 66 East, http://www.satcodx.com/i704.html
------------
MCM has started in the French MPEG-2 package on 4.055 GHz, Rc.
(Info kindly submitted by Steven P. via SATCO-DX)

Here the contents and PIDs for the CFI package:

Channelname VPID APID
CFI D-T-H 0078 0082
MCM Asia 00DC 00E6
[Serte Paris]	0140 014A
CFI Pro 1 0202 0085 (encrypted)

(Info kindly submitted by P.Merrett & U.Blass via SATCO-DX)

INTELSAT 801, 64 East, http://www.satcodx.com/i801.html
------------
Latest position data locate this satellite at 61.5 East, instead of the
earlier reported 64 East. It might have halted there to wait for
Intelsat 602 to move away from 63 East before it can enter 64 East.
(Info kindly submitted by Christian Lyngemark via SATCO-DX)

A single unconfirmed report in Germany has seen, from this position, a
test transmission for Iranian IRIB on the Ku-Band, with only slightly
better results as from Intelsat 602 on 63 East.

Please forward any observations to my mailbox.

TURKSAT 1C, 42 East, http://www.satcodx.com/t1c.html
----------
Turkish Flash TV has started on 11.129 GHz, V, MPEG-2, FTA, SR 4268, FEC
3/4, [VPID 0021], [APID 0022].[unconfirmed]
(Information kindly submitted by B.Dogan via SATCO-DX)

EUTELSAT II-F1, 13 East, http://www.satcodx.com/e2f1.html
--------------
Discovery's daughter channel "Animal Planet" will start on one of the
satellites at 13 East on July 1st. A broadcast of 15 hours per day FTA
is scheduled until October 1st, and then planned to be extended to
24-hours transmissions. The transmissions after September 30th will be
probably in D2-Mac.
(Info kindly submitted by K.Nilsson via SATCO-DX)

SME Comment: I expect this channel to transmit on one of the lesser
powerfull superbeam transponder, maybe a shared transponder, which is
negative to reception for the Middle East.

Euronews on transponder 37, 11.575 GHz, V, has re-started since a couple
of days, the transmissions of an Arabic commentary on audio subcarrier
7.74 MHz for a couple of hours a day. One observations has noted it at
18:00 CEST.
(Info kindly submitted by Mohamed El Nadi, Mamdouh Taher)

AMOS 1, 4 West, http://www.satcodx.com/amos1.html
------
Transponder 5L, 11.552 GHz, V, has been used today for an IBA feed with
an audio subcarrier on 6.60 MHz.

Transponder 3L, 11.133 GHz, V, was used for a feed for PBC (Palestinian
Broadcasting Company) with audio subcarriers on 6.60 MHz, for the Arabic
comment, and an empty carrier on 7.20 MHz. The logo of Palestian TV,
with the Arabic undertitle, "LIVE" was available in the upper left
corner of the screen.

P.B.C. Ramalla can be reached under the Tel.nr.: +972(50)406 572.

Best regards,

Henk C. Room / Sat-MidEast / Cairo - Egypt
