- Bits & Pieces

Due to an unforeseen downtime of the listserver, a delayed bulletin.

ARIANE V97, http://www.satcodx.com/launches.shtml
----------
The date for the next launch of Ariane flight 97 from Kourou, French
Guiana, has been set to June 3 local time (June 4 CEST.) The launch
window will be open from 19:58 to 20:59 local time (00:58 to 01:59
CEST.) The Ariane rocket will put INMARSAT 3-F4 and the Indian INSAT 2D
into orbit.

ARIANE LAUNCHES, http://www.satcodx.com/launches.shtml
---------------
The Ariane launch numbering has changed recently: Flight V96 initially
reserved for Panamsat 6, has been re-scheduled to a "late summer"
launch, initially keeping its original flight number. This has now been
adjusted, so that the flight scheduled for 24 June will carry the number
V96 (L468) and bring Intelsat 802 into orbit. Flight V98 (L469) with Hot
Bird 3 is now scheduled to take place on July 29th, flight number V99
(L470) is allocated to the Sirius 2 launch and the Panamsat 6 launch
carries now the number V100 (L471).

ASIASAT 1, 105.5 East, http://www.satcodx.com/asia1.html
---------
The picture and sound of Star Sports on 3.860 GHz, V, have been very
poor recently. Anybody any comments...? Due to the nearby transmisions
of Channel V on the Horizontal polarization level ?
(Request submitted by Robert Jorgensen)

THAICOM 3, 78.5 East, http://www.satcodx.com/thai78east.html
---------
The reception of the Thai channels using Thaicom 3 is still not
stabilized. Quality of the Army TV Channel 5 on 3.760, GHz, V, is
throughout the day acceptable, but decreases in the evening hours by
10%.

Channel 11 on 3.870 GHz, V, has much more variations: at times it can be
received in Cairo almost sparkfree, at times poor to unrecognizable,
while the Army TV Channel 5 stays put. Lately in broadcast free hours a
blank carrier can be observed.
(SME Cairo, thanks to Vasos Vasiliou, Cyprus & Phillip Poole, KSA)

PANAMSAT 4, 68.5 East, http://www.satcodx.com/pas4.html
----------
ART Australia and RAI International can be received in Free-To-Air
MPEG-2 on 3.966 GHz, V, SR 5632, FEC 3/4.
	ART Australia : VPID 0200, APID 028a
RAI International:	VPID 0201, APID 028b
(Info kindly submitted by Ghassan Tabet)

Iraninian channel Sima-yeh Moghavemat has moved to Intelsat 602.

INTELSAT 602, 63 East, http://www.satcodx.com/i602.html
------------
Iraninian oppositional channel Sima-yeh Moghavemat appeared lately on
4.188 GHz, Rc, with their regular feeds, giving it a better chance to be
seen in Iran, while all official Iranian broadcasts are also coming from
this bird, however using the Ku-frequencies.

TURKSAT 1B, 31 East, http://www.satcodx.com/t1b.html
----------
Last weekend, two transponder were active on the Turkish beam whereby
signal strength was well below when activated at 42 East.
Tp 06 - 11.053 GHz, V: message on a test card saying "Turksat 1B"
Tp 15 - 11.124 GHz, H: simple test card
(Info kindly submitted by A.Kardos via SATCO-DX)

HOT BIRD 2, 13 East, http://www.satcodx.com/hb2.html
----------
The Arabesque bouquet channels on 12.015 GHz, H, got finally steady
encrypted in Viaccess.
(Info kindly submitted by Eddie Rmaili via SATCO-DX)

ANN on 11.766 GHz, V, did change their daytime test broadcasts to a
series of channel intros, breaks and pause signs, complemented with
announcements on the, to be expected, programme outline. From the
afternoon, test transmissions with regular news stories are broadcasted.

The Arab News Network is based in London, and will be officially
launched within the next two months, according to the London-based
newspaper "Al Sharq al Awsat".

SME Comment: It is obvious that operations are still not fully activated
as news stories are inconsequent updated and not always brandnew. The
programming seems yet a little lame...it's missing the bite of a news
channel. Let's give them time to surprise us.

Best regards,

Henk C. Room / Sat-MidEast / Cairo - Egypt
