GULF CHANNEL
------------
According to the Kuwait-based Al-Watan newspaper, there are plans for a
new Dubai, UAE based satellite TV channel to be launched in June 1998.
It will be operated by a Kuwaiti company and have its administration
offices there. The company, with shareholders from all six Gulf
Co-operation Council states, will reportedly co-operate "with an
American company specialising in satellite television."

Intelsat 9xx series, http://www.ssloral.com/
-------------------
Space Systems/Loral (SS/L), a subsidiary of Loral Space & Communications
Ltd., has been awarded a contract to build two additional high-power
satellites for the International Telecommunications Satellite
Organisation (Intelsat).

Under the terms of the contract, SS/L will build and deliver Intelsat
903
and 904 in March and July, 2001, respectively. The satellites, to be
launched aboard Ariane launch vehicles, will provide voice/data and
video service over the Atlantic Ocean Region (AOR) at 24.5 resp. 34.5
West, providing services to North America, South America, Europe,
Africa, Greenland and Iceland.

Intelsat 901 and 902 are currently under construction by SS/L and are
scheduled to be delivered in the summer and late fall of 2000,
respectively. They will provide service over the Indian Ocean Region
(IOR) at 60 resp. 62 East.
Each of the four satellites in the Intelsat IX series being built by
SS/L will operate 44 transponders in the C-band and 12 transponders in
the Ku-band. The satellites will carry a significantly greater
percentage of high-power amplifiers and solar array power than any
previous Intelsat series. The satellites, based on Space Systems/Loral's
standard three-axis spacecraft, will have a mission life in excess of 13
years.
SS/L has been the prime contractor on several previous Intelsat programs
including Intelsat V, Intelsat VII, and Intelsat VIIA.

LAUNCH INFORMATION, http://www.satcodx.com/launches.shtml
------------------

ARIANESPACE ORDERS ARIANE 5
---------------------------
Arianespace, of Evry, France, plans to finalize the purchase of 50
additional Ariane 5 launch vehicles from European industry during the
first quarter of 1998. This procurement was announced officially by
Arianespace's chairman & CEO, Jean-Marie Luton, during the company's
traditional new year press conference, in Paris, France, on January 7.

A first batch of 20 vehicles will be ordered for launches in 2001 and
2002. Arianespace already ordered 14 vehicles in June 1995, the first of
which was sold to the European Space Agency for the third qualification
flight (503) now expected in June.

Arianespace's first commercial launch (504) is scheduled late this year.
Under current plans, the Ariane 5 launch rate will then grow from 5
flights per year to 10 in 2001 with studies for a possible extension to
14 launches per year later.

Arianespace also plans to launch 10 Ariane 4s in 1998.

For this new procurement, Arianespace negotiated a 50% reduction of
production costs. Most of the launchers purchased should include
improvements from the Performance 2000 and Ariane 5 Evolution programs
which will allow to increase the dual launch performance to
geostationary transfer orbits from 5,900 to 7,000 and 7,400 kg
respectively.

To support the necessary investments to increase Ariane 5's launch rate,
introduce these improvements and maintain the production of Ariane 4s in
parallel through 2003, Arianespace's current shareholders will be
invited to increase the company's capital by about FRF 1 billion (about
US$ 170 million).

Mr. Luton also unveiled that a major launch contract for constellations
will be announced in February by Starsem, of Suresnes, France, a
joint-venture of Aerospatiale, the Russian Space Agency (RKA), the
Samara Space Center and Aerospatiale, which markets launch services on
Soyuz vehicles from Baykonur, Kazakhstan.

channel called "CNBC".
