So, finally, it looks like SMW made it's first footprint mistake in the
footprint of Thor 2. That one avilable at their website is totally wrong.
Currently, looks like there is no hope for signal increasing from this
bird.
Even oppositely to that,
two days ago signal decreased down 0.5-1 dBW. For stable and problemless
reception of Thor 2 round-the-clock now the dish of 2.8-3.0m size is
required in Moscow. But, evenly after signal decreasing, there are still
periods of time,
when reception is possible on smaller dish sizes. From arround 22:30 CET
till 01:00 CET (during good weather conditions) signal achieves it's
highest strength level in Moscow - arround 41 dBW.
At this time it is evenly possible to recieve some digital signals
using just a 1.2-1.5m dish. I was able to recieve Canal Digital/Nethold
digital package, and almost without problem watched some
valueable movies, like "Bad Boys" or "The Net" on Filmnet 1 and Filmnet 2
channels.
Reception of this package using dishes with bad amplifying power or
small size strongly depends on weather conditions. During reception of this
package using 1.2m dish picture stops sometimes, but is almost stable
during time period
from 22:45 CET till 23:45 CET in good weather. Using 1.5m dish
during the good weather you can get rid of this kind of problems.
Canal Digital/Nethold package is broadcasting on 11.276 V in
MPEG-2 DVB, it includes Filmnet 1, Filmnet 2, Hallmark and Nelonen ,
it is enirely free-to-air besides Nelonen. It can be easily recieved using
a Nokia D-box. Parameters are SR 24500, FEC 7/8.
At the moment, the latest information says that VTV will stay on 11.540 V
transponder of Intelsat 707. No Canal Plus channels will start there.
Canal Plus prefers to use Thor satellites, but, with that attitude, it
still did not
refuse to operate the transponder 11.174 H on Intelsat 707,
where currently you can find a Free-To-Air MPEG-2 DVB package,
which consists of NRK 1, TV Finland, TV Norge and, the very
popular lately, 1 deg. west promo. Reception quiality and signal strength
are, of course, exellent and superb. 0.9m dish and a d-box will
do the perfect job. Parameters are: SR 22500, FEC 2/3.
According to SATCO DX Update Mail, the channel,
partly which made 1 deg. west position so popular in Central Russia,
MTV Europe, will be replaced by BBC Prime on Intelsat 707
beginning from august 26th. MTV will stay only on Thor 2 from that
time, and, how we could expect it, on it's weakest transponder - 11.432 V.
Reception of this one here is possible only during most perfect weather
conditions and during night time. Still, picture ceases oftenly (lack of
signal
strength for a D2-MAC decoder), and contains a lot of sparklies.
Also, according to SATCO DX, news channel from States - CNN -
will move to Intelsat 707 on august 20th and will replace NRK To,
which, like MTV, will stay only on Thor 2. It's a pity to loose this
channel
aswell, because during evenings of weekdays (21:00-22:00 CET) it's
used to air pretty valuable music shows.
Transponders 11.016 H (TV Norge moves to Thor 2 on september 30d)
and 11.136 V (BBC Prime moves to ex-MTV transponder on Intelsat 707)
on Intelsat 707 and 11.785 on Thor 1 become free. Yet, it is unknown what
will start there. 4 new analogue channels are expected at 1 deg. west from
september 1st, two of them are BSkyB channels, and one will probably
be TMF Nordic.
So, with sadness I have to announce that there are no good music channels
left, which are recieveable in Moscow with a normal-sized dishes. There are
Tylko Muzyka and Atomic TV, but personally, I'm already tired of such
quantity of Polish videos on these channels. There is also dutch TMF at
16 East, but it's reception is stopped with strong interference from
Eurotica/Rendez-Vous and a big number of radio-relay lines in Moscow.
Without problems TMF Dutch may be recieved only from 05:35 till
07:00 CET using a 1.5m dish in Moscow. This is probably the last good
channel avilable to us ... Remember, not so long ago, we had a bigger
choice ...

I haven't pointed my dish to GALS satellites already for a long time, after
my NTV Plus decoder was switched off, there was nothing to watch there. But
today I decided to check out the "hit of the season" - Ruslan TV
subcarrier. Ruslan TV was organised as a project of translating European
channels to Russian language, and it uses for it's activities the
subcarrier 7.56 Mhz of 12.166 Ghz transponder of a GALS satellite.
Sometimes, besides translations of the channels, both clear and encrypted,
one is able to hear some really interesting and curious things. For
example, the "original"
satellite scene news, mostly based on advertising of well-known Universal
Communications company. Today, I was able to catch one more interesting
message,
this time in the commercial of Ruslan TV itself. I was shocked when heard,
that respected gentleman from this company plan to add to existing
translations of (not-so-popular in Russia) channels TV Polonia, NBC, TV5
and others, the translations of Scandinavian pay-tv stations TV 1000 and
Cartoon Network !
Oh boy, here we go again. These respected gentleman started to say
paradoxal
words by themselves. Ruslan TV project, according to my data, was initially
built as 100% lawful, with achievement of agreements with all translated
channels.
TV1000 and CTV pacakge, which includes the Nordic version of Cartoon
Network,
have the license to broadcast only in Scandinavian countries, and start of
translations of these channels to Russian languge while being unbelieveably
popular locally,
will be totally and entirely unlawful.
