GE Americom Satellite Launch a Complete Success!
Lockheed Martin Astrospace Commercial International Launch Services
successfully launched the first of GE Americom's new generation satellites,
GE -1, at 5:54pm EDT Sunday, Sept. 8, 1996 from pad 36 at Cape Canaveral.
The satellite is currently in a standard inclined elliptical parking orbit,
and is being commissioned by Astro. Telemetry is nominal, and Astro
engineers will fire the spacecraft's liquid apogee engines on Thursday to
begin moving the spacecraft into its geosynchronous parking orbit, where it
will replace GSTAR-1 at 103 degrees west longitude.
