And now the news:

---------- INTRODUCTION
Hi everyone! Thanks for choosing this mailing list. Like the info file
said, I
can't promise regular updates - news occurs when news occurs. What I can
try to
do is give you the latest news as it breaks (more or less) on the UK
satellite
scene. Note: this mailing list will concentrate on the UK satellite
scene alone.
Reports will be made concerning equipment available, changes in English
channels
and the Astra satellites, and changes in programming. For the latest
changes
on other channels, see SATCODX.

---------- SKY STARTS BULLETINS
If you've been watching the Sky channels lately, you'll have noticed
that Sky
has brought back one of its old services. During the day and early
evening, you
can now catch short bulletins from Sky News on Sky 1 (as of yet, no
other channels
have apprently been given this novelty). The short bulletin includes the
headlines, presented by one person (probably different each time), who
at the
end announces the next Sky 1 programme.

---------- CHANNEL 5?
Channel 5 tests are now well underway here in the UK, albeit only in the
UHF band.
This should signal a massive increase in Channel 5 reception capability
in the UK,
and, if the project to 5-ize Britain carries on at this pace, C5 may
well be into
broadcasting before their set date, March 30th. By the time you receive
this, around
20 transmitters should have been tested and certified. The question now
remains,
when will Filmnet 1 give up to C5? If anyone knows, please email me and
tell me!
