Anomaly Reported On Intelsat 605
WASHINGTON, DC, USA, 97/09/16 (TS) -- Intelsat says there is an
"anomaly"
on its Intelsat 605 satellite at 24.5 degrees West. The operator
reported
"a deficiency of telemetry which may eventually affect Intelsat's
ability
to monitor the satellite in a normal operational manner." While
maintaining, "there is no effect on the traffic carried on the satellite
and none is anticipated," the operator announced a plan to replace the
craft.
It said an Intelsat 7 series craft will be placed at 27.5 degrees
West,
thus freeing Intelsat 601 to move to 34.5 degrees West. From that
position,
Intelsat 603 will be moved to replace the malfunctioning satellite at
24.5
degrees West. The organization said the 605 craft would be "relocated to
perform a new operational role."
