DirecTV May Slash Hardware Prices
NEW YORK, New York, USA, 96/08/14 (TS) -- DirecTV is considering cutting
prices of receivers to compete better with the new Echostar DBS system,
according to US press reports. The company is said to be debating a cut to
win more viewers.
DirecTV currently charges somewhere between $499 and $900 for a receiver
while Echostar will sell a complete system for $199 when coupled with an
annual $300 programming contract.
DirecTV charges $29.95 for its most popular package making the years
subscription from $860 to $1,260 against $599 for Echostar's hardware and
programming.
