PanAmSat/Hughes Deal A Step Closer
WASHINGTON, DC, USA, 96/12/06 (TS) -- The waiting period under federal
antitrust law for the merger of satellite operations of Hughes Electronics
Corp. and PanAmSat Corp. has expired, PAS said on Friday. This marks a step
nearer to completition of the deal. An investigation into the plans is
still underway by the Federal Communications Commission which is the only
thing holding up the deal now.
The two companies plan to merge Hughes' Galaxy fleet of satellites above
North America was PanAmSat's global network of satellites, already the
largest global private satellite fleet in the skies.
