USSB Counts 1.22 Million Subscribers
  LAS VEGAS, Nevada, USA, 97/01/13 (TS) -- U.S. Satellite Broadcasting
(USSB) has announced its latest subscriber numbers. The company said that
as of December 31, 1996, it has 1.22 million paying subscribers. The total
number of homes with DSS systems, which include those of other operators,
totalled 2.3 million on the same day.

  USSB shares DSS and supporting technology with Hughes' DirecTV. Together
the companies offer 200 channels of programming.
