Indonesia Selects Ariane
JAKATA, Indonesia, 97/04/22 (TS) -- Indonesia has selected Arianespace to
put its Telekom-1 satellite into space. The satellite will be launched in
late 1998 or early 1999 and be used to provide voice and data
telecommunications services for more than 15 years.
It will be built by Lockheed Martin Telecommunications of Sunnyvale,
California, and carry 32 C-band transponders.
This launch contract is the 170th signed by Arianespace since the
founding of the company in 1980. Arianespace's orderbook now stands at 40
satellites to be launched, worth approximately US$ 3.1 billion. The next
launch, Flight 96, is scheduled for May 13. An Ariane 44P launch vehicle
will be used to place into orbit the PAS-6 direct TV broadcast satellite
for PanAmSat, a private U.S. company. PAS-6 will cover the South American
Market.
