Taiwan Broadcaster Signs For PAS-2
TAIPEI, Taiwan, 97/05/08 (TS) -- PanAmSat has announced Taiwan's newest
television operator, Formosa TV, has signed to use the PAS-2 satellite. The
company will launch two free-to-air channels for viewing by cable and
non-cable households across Taiwan. The broadcaster received Taiwan's last
available terrestrial VHF license from authorities in February.

The satellite operator said Formosa TV will use 27 MHz on PAS-2's Ku-band
China beam for distribution of its two new channels. The first of the two
channels, a news network, is already on the air with the second channel, an
entertainment channel, due on air in June. Some of the remaining space on
the transponder will also be used for SNG (satellite news gathering).

  PAS-2, which was launched in July 1994, has 16 Ku-band and 16 C-band
transponders. It provides coverage of the Pacific Ocean Region, including
virtually all of Asia and the western United States. In addition to
Formosa TV, PAS-2 broadcast customers include ABS-CBN, Asia Business News,
China Central Television, Disney, Discovery, ESPN, Liberty, NBC, NHK,
Television Corporation of Singapore and Viacom International.
