Canada's Alphastar To Close
  TORONTO, Canada, 97/08/07 (TS) -- The Alphastar DTH service has closed,
court-appointed receiver and manager Ernst & Young announced. After
offering the service for sale, the receiver did not receive any acceptable
bids to acquire the business as a going concern, it said.

  As a result, the previously announced backstop deal with Loral SpaceCom
Corporation will be completed and AlphaStar Canada Inc, and its U.S.
counterpart, AlphaStar Television Network Inc., will have no alternative
but to stop broadcasting effective 3:00 a.m., Thursday, August 7, 1997,
said Ernst & Young.
