Palapa Closure Costs NBC $16m

Jakata, Indonesia, 26 March 1998 (TS-ASIA) -- The termination of a
transponder lease on the Palapa C1 satellite is to cost NBC Asia $16.3
million. The channel is closing down transmissions on the previous CNBC
transponder following its merger with Asia Business News. ABN also leased a
channel on the satellite, resulting in two transponders carrying the new
channel, CNBC Asia Business News.

Satellite owners P.T. Pasifik Satelit Nusantara said, NBC had signed a
12-year contract for the transponder, due to expire in 2008. The fee
represents a penalty for early termination of the contract. The transponder
will end broadcasts of CNBC Asia Business News on March 31.
