THE HEADLINES IN THIS REPORT:

- Intelsat 703
- Showtime Promo
- Bloomberg Télévision
- Telecomp Cairo
- Bits & Pieces

PANAMSAT 4, 68.4 East, SATCO-DX: http://satcodx.com/pas4.html
----------
The Showtime Network's Promotianal Channel on txpr 4.115 GHz, V, did
broadcast, but visible was only the message "No Transport Stream" "SHOW"
"Video OK" Audio OK". So it happens: No TS and that on an analogue
transponder. (gg :-)
The promo channel was however clear in the digital package itself.

INTELSAT 703, 57 East, SATCO-DX: http://satcodx.com/i703.html
------------
Sudan on txpr 14, 4.010 GHz, Rc, was again not broadcasting throughout
the day, even now, 19:00 CET nothing to see, txm on Arabsat 2A commenced
as usual.

The new txm of Ethiopia TV in the Ku band on 11.168 GHz, H, could be
recognized as a signal only with all tricks. A lock on the txm test card
was not possible, pictures during the evening txm could not be resolved.

Kasachstan TV on txpr 65, 11.550 GHz, H, was in the morning quite good
receivable, in color and without treshold, however after being switched
of for a couple of hours the picture quality had deteriorated
tremendously.

Eutelsat II-f3, 16 East, SATCO-DX: http://satcodx.com/e2f3.html
--------------
On txpr 37, 11,575 GHz, V, while Friday, again the Christianizing txm in
Arabic of SAT 7. originated from Amman, Jordan.

Eutelsat II-f2, 10 East, SATCO-DX: http://satcodx.com/e2f2.html
--------------
Txpr 37, 11.575 GHz, V, previous BHT, was seeing a txm of the French
version of Bloomberg TV at least until 19:00 CET. A sound carrier for TV
was available on 6.60 MHz.In case B-TV intends to remain a while on this
txpr it could be the best reason for the dissapperance of BHT.

On the France Telecom txpr 22, 11.163 GHz, H, a test performed by MAXAT
for Philips Telcommunications was performed with quite a shaky test
card. Very narrow banded sound carriers could be found on 6.50, 7.00,
7.20, 7.36, 7.50, 7.74, 7.92 and 8.10 MHz.

INTELSAT 707, 1 West, SATCO-DX: http://satcodx.com/i707.html
------------
The IBA SNG txpr 111a, on 10.967 GHz, V, was used for a sport txm for
Israel Channel 5. Sound on the normal frequency of 6.60 MHz.

AMOS 1, 4 West, SATCO-DX: http://satcodx.com/amos1.html
------
On txpr 4U, was Israels channel 2 txm again. The TV sound was txm all
over the frequency spectrum, with several clear defined frequencies in
between e.g. 6.00, 6.60. 7.02 and 7.20 MHz. All sound channels were
later switched off, and testing started for a while. Thereafter only a
clear sound was receivable from 6.60 MHz and a very wide, empty, carrier
on 7.20 MHz.

INTELSAT 601, 27.5 West, SATCO-DX: http://satcodx.com/i601.html
------------
On txpr 105, 4.065 GHz, Lc, the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) was
testing for a live broadcast from a soccer stadium.

Some more "PICTURES OF AN EXHIBITION", the TELECOMP'96 Cairo
SAT Freaks and DX'r should stop reading here.....

MS
--
Microsoft still busy marketing their Windows 95 in the Middle East, it
seems to be nescessary after all this time. The representatives were
quite active gathering all sorts of personal information and computer
habits (the web browser war) on questionaires, under the cover of
improving client services. A nice way to put it. Nothing much new to be
seen there anyway.

SUN
---
Sun's main purpose on the fair, explain the world the JAVA workstations,
the JAVA software and the JAVA ideology. Actually..., not so much
visitors were interested.

HUGHES
-------
Hughes Networking was presenting VSAT installations and applications,
presenting an active Video Conferencing System, whereby a two-way
transmission was established between the exhibition hall and the Maadi
Earth Station (the main Egyptian up-link service) using a 512 Kbit
connection via C-Band transponder 17 on the ARABSAT 2A.

ARIANESPACE
------------
Arianespace was, to my surprise, available on this exhibition, with even
a few French officials. A few scaled models of the various types of
Ariane 4 launcher were on display and the famous Ariane 5 in a huge
version. Exept from nice launch pictures, the models and a, not even
recent, display of flights on order nothing much new was there to see.
Some smalltalk with the French representatives did not bring any light
onto flight V93, scheduled to take place on 17 December. Most probably
they were told not to tell. They were most probably only here for public
relation reasons, don't forget, Nilesat will be launched in twelve
months from now by Arianespace, so a little goodwill in return could do
nothing wrong.

ALCATEL
-------
Alcatal introduced in 1996 the GSM telephones to Egypt, now promoting
their line of mobile phones which use the Arabic language. A microwave
transmisssion chain has been established from Alexandria in the north,
to as far as Abu Simbel in the south, just above the Sudanese border.
For Egyptologists: This is the site of the great temple of Ramses II,
the longest ruling Pharao of Egypt.

WORLDSTAR Project
----------------
Alcatel is the prime contractor in the produktion of Worldstar Global
DAVB (Digital Audio Video Broadcasting) satellites named Afristar,
Asiastar and Caribstar on resp. 21 East, 105 East and 95 West. These
satellites will mainly be configured to transmit DAVB radio signals to
third world countries, where they can be received, in much better
quality as the present short wave transmissions, by small, cheap,
batterie-powered digital receivers.

The footprint of the Asiastar covers the whole of Asia, leaving out
however Australia complete. The Caribstar covers Latin America, up to
Mexico, leaving out North America and Canada. The Afristar covers the
whole of Africa, Middle East, even overlapping the Asiastar in India.
Worldstar's headoffice is located in Washington, an European control
center is planned in Toulouse, France. The official launch of the system
is scheduled to take place in 1998-1999.

Best regards,
