- 1stNet/Showtime TV Guide

- Bits & Pieces

Due to the present lack of interesting news and/or changes the
SAT-MidEast reports are submitted less frequent. Important news however
will trigger automatically an update, so don't worry, you'll miss
nothing...

THAICOM 3, t.b.l. at 78.5 East, http://www.satcodx.com/launches.html
---------
The Thaicom 3 launch was rescheduled for 16 April, toghether with the
BSAT 1A. The Arianespace flight V95 was originally scheduled for 11
April.
(Info kindly submitted by the TVRO Source via SATCO-DX)

PANAMSAT 4, 68.5 East, http://www.satcodx.com/pas4.html
----------
On April 5th there has been a shortlived interuption of all TV guide
messages and programm naming in the SHOWTIME/1stNet DStv packages, most
probably due to a technical update or addition.
On April 6th all channels in the package returned titled, and additional
TV Guide information was made available. Channels still lacking any kind
of info, other than the channel name, are TNT/The Cartoon Network, Nile
Drama Channel, ESC-2, MCM and M-Net/K.TV.

Due to changes on the Panamsat Internet Site are, for the time being,
the footprint maps from PAS-4 and PAS-3R available directly from the
SAT-NET server, http://www.sat-net.com/sat-mideast/maps.html

ARABSAT 2B, 30.5 East, http://www.satcodx.com/a2b.html
----------
Transponder 16, 4.064 GHz, Lc is now very often in use by the UAE TV
companies. A Philips testcard named DUBAI is, between transmissions,
most of the time available. Audio subcarriers on 6.60 and 7.20 MHz.

EUTELSAT II-F1, 13 East, http://www.satcodx.com/e2f1.html
--------------
As on 17 March already in SAT-MidEast reported: the Euronews channel on
11.576 GHz, V, will start broadcasting in the, long announced, Arabic
language on audio subcarrier on 7.74 MHz. At the time an Arabic trailer
is transmitted.

HOTBIRD 2, 13 East, http://www.satcodx.com/hb2.html
---------
Just as a reminder: only following transponder are switched to the
widebeam and are available for reception in analogue or MPEG-2 in the
KSA and Gulf Area:

Transponder 50 - 11.727 GHz, Vertical
Transponder 51 - 11.747 GHz, Horizontal
Transponder 52 - 11.766 GHz, Vertical
Transponder 55 - 11.823 GHz, Horizontal
Transponder 60 - 11.919 GHz, Vertical
Transponder 65 - 12.015 GHz, Horizontal

The superbeam channels are available in good quality only to the western
Mediterranean countries; to the east, after Greece, the EIRP drops
sharply and is most of the time not sufficient for digital reception,
when still an analogue picture can be received.

INTELSAT 707, 1 West, http://www.satcodx.com/i707.html
------------
No reports to be expected anymore from the transponder 73A and 73B
previous in use by the Israel Broadcasting Authorization (IBA).
Both transponder have been switched to the Nordic beam and are already
in use for transmissions, using the well known frequencies: 11.133 and
11.176 GHz, V.
No reception is possible in the Middle East, however reception reports
from Turkey have been received.

EXPRESS 2, 14 West, http://www.satcodx.com/e2.html
---------
A Russian testcard appeared on a new very strong carrier on 3.975 GHz,
Rc. An audio subcarrier is available on 7.00 MHz. The clock on the
testcard is running 2 hours ahead of CEST. This transponder has been in
use by TV6 a while ago. Reception quality is without a glitch in Cairo.

SAT-MidEast Intern, http://www.sat-net.com/sat-mideast/
------------------
The SAT-MidEast Website has been renewed today with updates and
satellite additions (Intelsats 801, 805, 806, Thaicom, Panamsats 6 & 7 )
to the archives, footprint maps, future satellites, active satellites,
and minor detail additions and address changes. Take a renewed look...

Best regards,

Henk C. Room / Sat-MidEast / Cairo - Egypt
