THE HEADLINES IN THIS 97.04.14 REPORT:

- ART PAS-2 Services
- TYSON vs HOLYFIELD on Showtime
- CLASSICS! on Gorizont 31
- Formula on PAS-3R
- Bits & Pieces

PANAMSAT 2, 169 East, http://www.satcodx.com/pas2.html
----------
In answer to my questions concerning the appearance of ART Australia on
3.745 GHz, H, PAL, FTA, following comments:

The Shopping Network Channel "TVSN" does not appear to suffer any
problems; reception in Adelaide, South Australia is good with a few
sparklies, while sound is noise-free. There is no interferrence to
either TVSN or ART Australia due, no doubt, to the use of different
polarities; TVSN uses vertical polarity, while ART Australia uses
horizontal polarity.

TVSN is using an audio sub carrier of 6.80 MHz, while the ART is using
an audio sub carrier of 6.60 MHz.

ART's transmission is truly excellent. The picture is noise-free, sharp,
good colour saturation on studio and most program material; (some movies
leave a bit to be desired, but this is obviously due to degredation of
the source material); sound is without any distortion - very clear.

The ART is also transmitting News, Current Affairs, religious-devotional
segments and what appear to be chat-shows.

For this very comprehensive report, I like to thank Alf May, living in
Adelaide, South Australia, where currently the autumn weather is mild
and sunny, opposite to Cairo: cloudy, dusty and getting hotter...

THAICOM 3, 78.5 East, http://www.satcodx.com/launches.html
---------
The Thaicom 3 satellite, with an announced C-Band footprint for the
Middle East(++), is scheduled to be launched on April 16, late evening.
Check for feeds of the Arianespace launch V95 on various satellites for
a launch window from 23.59 - 00.41 CEST.

PANAMSAT 4, 68.5 East, http://www.satcodx.com/pas4.html
----------
The re-scheduled bout between Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield will be
broadcasted live on Ch-15 "TV-Land" of the SHOWTIME package on June 29th
1979.

On frequency 4.040 Ghz, H, are now more often sports feeds observed,
s.a. on 12.04.97 tennis from the SALEM Open, with low power, and audio
subcarriers on 6.60 and 7.20 MHz.

The NTSC transmissions of NHK Tokyo on 12.602 GHz, V, are very low in
power at present time. A stable picture can hardly be obtained.

INTELSAT 703, 57 East, http://www.satcodx.com/i703.html
------------
Jordan TV, Viva Cinema and Sky News appeared on a new transponder,
10.992 GHz, V, on the ORBIT Network. The Disney Channel was also
launched on the Orbit Network package on 11.600 GHz, V. The ORBIT
Network uses for it's MPEG 1.5 Service, propriatary Scientific Atlanta
receiver/decoders, which are not DVB compatible.

	Ch 27 Viva Cinema
Ch 28 SKY News (identical to UK service)

GORIZONT 31, 40 East, http://www.satcodx.com/g31.html
----------
On 3.875 GHz, Rc, failed RDV to broadcast yesterday. Therefore I
observed today at 19:00 CEST a trailer for CLASSICS! " The best of
classic television" with audio subcarriers on 6.50 and 7.50 MHz.
RDV was on air today in the normal time frame.

Information about decoder, subscription and broadcasting rights can be
obtained from a Parisien telephone number: 33 1 6086 7017, which is not
quite unknown ! The channel is announced to start soon and will be coded
using the smartcrypt system.

SME comment: maybe also daily 3 hours FTA for an 3 month period...<gr>

ARABSAT 2A, 26 East, http://www.satcodx.com/a2a.html
----------
Syria TV failed to transmit a test screen on transponder 17, 4.085 GHz,
Rc, today early morning, even a carrier was hardly detectable. At
programm start everything had been returned to normal status.

EUTELSAT II-f3, 16 East, http://www.satcodx.com/e2f3.html
--------------
Ukraine Satellite Channel has started with test transmissions on
Saturday ans Sunday on 11.575 GHz, V, in PAL, using an audio subcarrier
on 6.60 MHz. (Saturday 13.00-17.00 CEST, Sunday 13.30-17.30 CEST.)
(Info from JW via SATCO-DX)

EUTELSAT II-f1, 13 East, http://www.satcodx.com/e2f1.html
--------------
On Euronews, transponder 37, 11.575 GHz, V, the taped announcement of
the start of the Arabic services ceased today on audio subcarrier 7.74
MHz, and tests for the forementioned service started. At times English,
French and female Arabic voice-overs were noted, with breaks without any
sound.

On-screen announcements advise viewers of the launch of the service on
April 15th, but only with a time-limited service from 16:00 to 24:00
Hrs, at start.

EXPRESS 2, 14 West, http://www.satcodx.com/e2.html
---------
On frequency 3.975 GHz, Rc, could after the test broadcast of NTV only
the main carrier be observed for the last days, without any audio
subcarriers. No announcements on the final broadcaster has been made.

INTELSAT 601, 27.5 West, http://www.satcodx.com/i601.html
------------
After being of air almost for a day, NTA, Nigeria returned early evening
in a, long time missed, excellent quality on 4.066 GHz, Lc.

PANAMSAT 3R, 43 West, http://www.satcodx.com/pas3r.html
-----------
Last Sunday's Formula 1 race: "The Argentinien Grand Prix" was seen in a
FTA MPEG2 packed transmission as followed:

CH-Source Freq	Pol SR	FEC VPID APID
CH1 DSF/Super 12.530 H	27.500	3/4 40A0 4050
CH2 Canal+ 12.530 H	27.500	3/4 40A1 4054
CH3 Telepiu 12.530 H	27.500	3/4 40A2 4058
CH4 Onboard 12.530 H	27.500	3/4 40A3 405C
CH5 PIT/Highl. 12.530 H	27.500	3/4 40A4 4060
CH6 Data 12.530 H 27.500	3/4 40A5 4064

Info kindly submitted by Mike Bauerfeind "SAT-Digital".

The EBU Formula 1 transmissions seen on EUTELSAT II-f4-M have been of
poor quality. One of the reasons could be the frequent transcoding of
the signal from NTSC-MPEG-PAL-SiS...

Best regards,
