ARIANE 502 Launch Delayed,
-------------------------
http://www.esrin.esa.it/htdocs/esa/ariane/news.html

The second qualification flight of the new heavylift launcher, initially
set for July 8th, has had to be pushed back - in fact more than two
months, to mid-September at least. That is the new target set by the
European Space Agency and its partners, announced on the 24th March
after a progress review on 21st March .

The CNES and Aerospatiale development teams believe that if the
essential measures to counter the failure of last June's maiden flight
have been implemented, other "complementary" actions are necessary and
that these will take time.

Since mid April however it seems more and more likely that Ariane 502
will not be ready for launch until the beginning of next year. Official
confirmation of this will come when it is known whether the launcher is
being shipped from France on schedule in the coming weeks.

The 2nd qualification launch will carry definately two MAQSAT dummy
satellites, and the ham- radio Amsat P3-D being built in Germany... and
the flight's last minute passenger, ESA's TEAMSAT, integrated in the
Netherlands. The total calculated payload is 5.18 metric tons.

NOKIA MEDIAMASTER 9200 S FTA, http://www.nokia.com/products/multimedia/
----------------------------
The first of the new NOKIA/Mascom 9200 models are tested. Some
difficulties to store SCPC-signals on different memory-places have still
remained after the change of software. The final software for this
receiver is expected in week 20 and should have major changes, making it
easy to store a package or SCPC-signal in a given memory-channel.
Also we expect much easier handling of A/V-PIDs and bandwidth.

The model 9200 S FTA comes without Conditional Access Module, but
inserting one is easy. A Free-To-Air receiver usually does not need the
CAM, but if you subscribe to a package or a free MCPC is asking for the
module, it is handy to have one and CAM´s are offered on a small
parallel-market.
The new software will be tested immediately after release and results
are published in TELE-satellite International and shown in drdish@tv.

TURKSAT 1C, 42 East, http://www.satcodx.com/t1c.html
----------
Transponder 3, 11.667 GHz, V, on the European beam has been active in
the last week again, transmitting at first, without audio, TRT
International, in the 3rd version on this bird, and later showing a
colorbar card, interupted by some feeds. During the feeds audio
subcarriers on 6.60 and 7.20 MHz could be received.

Transponder 12, 10.968 GHz, H, was activated for a sports event on April
29th, during the early evening hours. Shown was a volleyball match
between Turkey and Israel, with an audio subcarrier on 6.65 MHz.

ARABSAT 2B, 30.5 East, http://www.satcodx.com/a2b.html
----------
On transponder 17, 4.085 GHz, Rc, as well as on Orion 1 at 37.5 West
could the transmissions of BAZTAB TV be observed from 18:45 and 20:00
CEST.
The transmissions of the, in Farsi transmitted, entertainment channel
are in PAL on the Arabsat and in NTSC on Orion.
Close to the end of Wednesday evenings show, hefty video disturbances,
of an unknown origine, could be observed, at least on the Arabsat
transponder.

Since April 29th, is on transponder 21, 4.167 GHz, Rc, a new test card
steady visible, with the, for the Arabsat system unusual, audio
subcarrier frequency of 6.20 MHz. No announcements on the use of this
tranponder has been made. (SME, Mamdouh Taher)

Last weeks one-day activation of Ku-Band transponder 1, 12.521 GHz, H,
was not seen repeated.

HOT BIRD 1, 13 East, http://www.satcodx.com/hb1.html
----------
Fashion and Radio Asia (only test card) are testing on 11.304 GHz, H,
MPEG-2, SR 27500, FEC 3/4, both FTA
Fashion VPID 007B, APID 0085 (just showing models non-stop)
Radio Asia card VPID 007C, APID 0086
(Info's by P Gauduin, Nickolas, T Boeven, R Eckendorff via SATCO-DX)

HOT BIRD 2, 13 East, http://www.satcodx.com/hb2.html
----------
RAI's MPEG-2 package on transponder 54, 11.804 GHz, V, SR 27500, FEC 2/3
has switched to the wide beam today.
Info kindly submitted by Ghassan Tabet

The package is Free-To-Air and can be received with a good, DVB
compliant, digital receiver (some MCPC receiver e.g. PANASAT 520 will
not receive the channels, while no PID's can be entered).

SIRIUS 2, t.b.l. at 5 East, http://www.satcodx.com/launches.html
--------
Arianespace has changed it's scheduled launch date for flight V100 to
August 28. (Due to recent changes an eventually further exchange between
payloads of flight V99 and flight V100 could take place, both flights
are yet un-confirmed)

On this flight the major North- and Pan-European satellite Sirius 2,
carrying 32 powerfull transponder, is to be put in a geostationary
orbit.

INTELSAT 707, 1 West, http://www.satcodx.com/i707.html
------------
Transmissions for Israel 2 and the EMEQ feed on transponder 111X-B and
111X-A resp. have continued also on May 1st. The expected ceasure seems
also not to be eminent, but will come...be sure of that!

AMOS 1, 4 West, http://www.satcodx.com/amos1.html
------
Transponder 3 has now since 24 hours a low level carrier on the middle
frequency of 11.158 GHz, V, without audio subcarriers.

PANAMSAT 6, t.b.l. at 43 West, http://www.satcodx.com/launches.html
----------
Reliable sources report the postponement of the next Arianespace flight
V96, with PANAMSAT 6, which was intended to launch on May 13th.
The PAS-6 satellite, which is already in Kourou, needs last minute
checks and it won't be ready for launch on time.

The prime-contractor has advised a review of the craft after the
in-orbit problems of another satellite. TEMPO, launched by an Atlas on
8th March, has been hit by a recent solar flare and its solar arrays are
experiencing problems.
Although its owner TCI says that the satellite is "operating normally",
it is suffering "temporary power fluctuations". PANAMSAT has announced
that it has been informed by SS/LORAL that PAS-6 has the same hardware
as TEMPO, which may need to be changed before launch.

So the next Ariane launch, keeping its original flight designation V97,
will be that of INSAT-2D and INMARSAT III-F4, and is now scheduled for
3rd June 1997.

SAT-MidEast Intern, http://www.sat-net.com/sat-mideast/
------------------
Due to the update of the "majordomo" mailing list server, several
subscriber of the Sat-Mideast reports (and most probably other
mailservices), have received multiple copies of the transmitted issues.

This is actually a feauture of the new software, which checks during
transmission constantly the status of the connection and repeats the
transmission if any irregularity has been reported back, in order to
secure the correct reception of the messages.

So if your mail server or telephone lines are a little slow, or even
fail, to respond to the acknowledgment requests of the majordomo server,
this server will automatically send another copy of the required
mailing, thus feeding your mailbox with a duplicate. It is surely an
advantage, but requires a speedy mailbox server on your side.

Last but not least: It is always better two receive two copies of the
latest news then not to receive it at all, which would be the
alternative.

Best regards,
