And now the news:

---------- Sky News is back in digital

Sky News has returned once again in digital format on Astra 1D,
transponder 57. The parameters for all those with the corect equipment
are SR 19996, FEC 3/4, VPID 0200, APID 0280. Presumably, these are
simply more tests, like before, for the forthcoming digital package on
Astra 2 at 28,2 degrees east.

The British Broadcasting Corporation will launch a 24-hour television
news channel on British cable networks next month after gaining
government permission, the Financial Times reported. Permission was
given despite protests from British Sky Broadcasting, which offers Sky
News through partner News Corp.. The BBC is to offer the service free to
cable networks. BSkyB sells its 24-hour news service to the cable
companies. BBC's 24-hour news would also be broadcast overnight on BBC1
(terrestrial). Carriage deals covering 1.5 million households were
scored with ComTel/Telecential, Cable and Wireless, Diamond Cable, NT
and Telewest Communications.
