Changes At RAI International
ROME, Italy, 96/08/21 (TS) -- The RAI satellite channel aimed at viewers
in North America has recently changed satellite. RAI International started
broadcasting on 12 October 1992 via the INTELSAT K satellite as part of a
joint digital package set up by RAI, Telespazio and Europlus.

After 24 months of broadcasting, only 30,000 decoders were sold, and in
1993 a new shareholder bought 40% of Europlus. Sheik Saleh Kamel took over
the the commercial and uplinking part of the business with RAI responsible
for program content.

RAI International has since changed satellites and can now be found on the
ECHOSTAR 1 DBS satellite which has forced subscribers to buy new reception
equipment as well as a new decoder.
