Low Subscribers For Telepiu Digital
  ROME, Italy, 96/09/05 (TS) -- It seems the future for digital in Italy is
not as bright as previously thought. Only  days before the start of the new
football season, the number of subscribers to Telepius new pay-per-view
service Telecalcio totals only 6,000.

  This number is a failure taking in account remarks made back in July by
Telepiu bosses that they expect to have 130-150,000 subscribers by the end
of the year and 250,000 by the end of 1997. Market analysts estimate that if
by December, Telepiu does not have 100,000 subscribers and the guaranteed
minimum of 90 billion lira is not given to Italian football teams, the whole
service will be a massive flop.
