INTELSAT COVERS PRESIDENT CLINTON'S VISIT TO CHINA
Washington, D. C., 1 July 1998 -- INTELSAT announced today that
four of its
satellites are being used to cover the visit of President Clinton to
China,
the first visit by a U.S. President in a decade. The INTELSAT
satellites
being used are located at 60°E, 62°E, 174°E and 177°E.
INTELSAT is working with the Chinese broadcaster, CCTV (via
China Telecom),
to transmit coverage of the visit to broadcasters throughout Asia and
North
America, and has more than 150 occasional-use services confirmed. Harry
Mahon, INTELSAT's Director for Worldwide Video Services, commented, "We
are
pleased to be able to provide customers with the coverage and
flexibility
they need to globally broadcast these historic world events, such as
this
Presidential visit."
